Why go solar?

When it comes down to it, going Solar just makes sense. Expansive rebate and tax credit programs, dropping prices on solar components, and rising energy rates combine to make solar a good idea for most homes. Dramatically reduce your utility payments by supplying a large percentage of the energy you use with a solar photovoltaic system.

On average, energy rates have increased 6.5% per year since 1970. The cost per kilowatt/hour right now is a good deal for solar, but in several years, it will be better, and then a decade from now, it's suddenly a great deal. By purchasing a solar electric system, you're effectively locking in a portion of your utility bill at a fixed rate, rather than being subject to rate hikes by your utility company.

Also, having a solar system installed on your home increases your property value. Think about it this way: if you're looking at two houses on the same street, and they're the same floorplan and have comparable features and amenities, but one's electrical bill is $300 a month while the other's is $100, how much is that worth to you? How much more would you pay for that home that saves you $2,400 a year? Quite a bit. According to the Appraisal Journal, every thousand dollars saved per year results in a increase of $10,000 to $25,000 dollars. Best of all, California law excludes value added by solar systems from being included in your property taxes.

By going solar, you save money, reduce dependence on foreign oil, and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. It's good for you, good for America, and good for the Enviroment.
